The Fruits Basket , Akito is no different in this regard and views Tohru as a threat to his bond with the Zodiac members. This was previously a manga-only scene, but fans finally got to see it animated in the Fruits Basket reboot anime.
Akito's displeasure is uncharacteristically calm at this moment and that's exactly what makes it so potent. The violence aimed at Isuzu is done in such a way that puts her on the level of the Zodiac Cat , the most hated member of them all. Not only that, but she leaves Isuzu in there for months with no regard for her health or safety. It's important to note that Akito wasn't even invited to the summer house. She found out about the trip from Shigure and invited herself to keep tabs on everyone.
Akito's displeasure during the trip culminates when she makes a late-night surprise visit to see Tohru. And when Momiji courageously tries to protect Tohru from Akito's spite, Akito responds with physical abuse.
Up to this point, Tohru doesn't know exactly who Akito is. Akito makes sure to let Tohru know her position over the Zodiac members and leaves a parting gift: a bloody scratch on Tohru's left cheek.
By the end of the second season of the new Fruits Basket anime, Yuki has shown a tremendous amount of growth. He's made bonds with others and learned to lower his guard and let people in. In other words, he's making healthy changes that are good for him, and expresses as such to Akito during the banquet. Even though Yuki slowly starts distancing himself from Tohru due to joining the student council and finding his own friendship group, he remains just as protective of Tohru and mentions that he would never forgive someone if they hurt her.
For this reason, Yuki often scolds Kyo when he unintentionally treats Tohru coldly or hurts her. At the same time, Yuki becomes very supportive of her relationship with Kyo; he sees the sincerity in their well-balanced relationship, and even beats Kyo up for not visiting her in the hospital and for thinking that Yuki would be better off with her.
Yuki makes Kyo realize that he is the only one who can make Tohru happy and that he should not make her cry. Although he is a bit embarrassed about his true feelings, he expresses immense gratitude towards her for granting his wishes without asking for anything in return and helping him grow as a person. In fact, Yuki states that it is thanks to her coming into his life that he was able to become the man he is. Initially, Yuki strongly disliked Kakeru since he reminded him of Ayame. Nevertheless, during one of their first interactions where Kakeru says Yuki is an interesting person, Yuki is happy since no one had said something like that to him before.
Yuki is also envious of Kakeru since he finds him similar to Kyo in the sense that he is able to socialize and make friends easily. Kakeru manages to take his worry, relate to it, and be supportive of it. Likewise, Kakeru opens up about his family situation, and it is through Yuki that Kakeru learns about truly feeling alone.
Even though Kakeru often teases Yuki, he is always looking out for him and making sure he is alright, which Yuki appreciates. Tohru notes that it is thanks to meeting Kakeru, that Yuki has begun smiling more. Originally, Yuki did not hate Kyo and actually wanted to be friends with him. But Kyo refused, as he hated Yuki simply for being the Rat. Because of this, both of them are seen sharing a mutual hatred towards one another at the beginning of the story.
Whenever they talk or interact, they are always at odds and at each other's throats frequently. At the same time, Yuki is envious of how Kyo has the ability to easily make friends and fit into normal social settings, and is annoyed by the fact that Kyo wants to be part of the Zodiac while Yuki himself wants to escape from the Sohma family and its curse. Kyo is also envious of Yuki, as in how he is "perfect", always able to take advantage of a situation as one should, and how he is accepted into the zodiac family,.
Their relationships begin to improve slightly after they meet Tohru. Because of her kindness and both of them caring deeply for Tohru, they begin to soften their attitudes toward each other and are able to cooperate when Tohru is in trouble. Even though they do continue to argue and fight over everything, it is never through physical violence. When it was revealed that Kyo never hated Yuki for who he was, but had been so miserable with his life that he felt he needed a scapegoat for all his misfortune, their relationship became more overly complex.
When Tohru is hospitalized and Kyo refuses to go see because he thinks that she would be better off with Yuki, Yuki is enraged. He consequently beats Kyo up and is the first one to make him realize that he isn't some kind of superhero that can save everyone as in Kyo failing to save Kyoko , and that he is the only one who can make Tohru happy and that he is more capable than anyone else.
Kyo, in return, confesses how he has always wanted to be like Yuki, which struck a chord in Yuki as he has always idolized Kyo as well. After this event, they began to understand and respect each other. When Tohru asked Kyo about the reason behind their budding friendship, Kyo replied that Yuki had "beat him up".
It is implied that they still remain friends and frequently contact each other in their adult lives, as their sons were raised like brothers. Yuki has a twisted relationship of love and hatred with Akito. However, Yuki was emotionally, mentally, and psychologically abused by Akito; Yuki, as a result, was deeply traumatized.
She arrives at the summer house, uninvited and a bombshell to the Sohmas that were present. She instantly summons all the cursed Sohmas except Kyo to visit her, telling them that she "loves you all" and "misses you". She lets them go before the night ended. The next day, she met Yuki when he was taking a walk. She was seen talking to Yuki about something that shocked him and made him "run away". She later attempts to meet Tohru but she ended up 'giving up' as she felt 'sick and hot' and unable to comprehend Tohru playing with the "monster" Kyo.
She had a conversation with Kureno, even commenting that Kureno was "inferior" to her. Akito takes advantage of her influence as God of the Zodiac and using Kyo's guilt and self-loath against himself manages to subdue him. Next, she summons Haru, purposely insulting him with the phrase "big, dumb ox" and saying she doesn't want Tohru to meet Kureno.
Following Haru's summon came Kyo's. There it was revealed on Akito's true intention on Kyo and how she forced Kyo to understand his feelings for Tohru. It was also revealed that Kyo would be confined for the rest of his life if he does not beat Yuki in a fight, a bet met between Akito and him.
Before being sent home because of Ren, she forcefully meets Tohru, successful the second time, where she tells Tohru to leave the cursed Sohmas alone, staying out of the curse, and revealing that she is the "master of all their souls" or God-like and scratches Tohru's face. She later is believed to have traveled home, as she had met Tohru to see her before leaving.
It is eventually revealed that Akito had always been lonely and afraid of change. The reason that she clung so desperately to the Zodiac bonds was that she feared that, without them, she would be all alone, and her existence meaningless, just as her mother had always claimed.
This revelation occurred after both Momiji's and Hiro's curses broke, and also followed Momiji confronting Akito on such a fact. With the bonds falling apart, Akito—after having wrongfully stabbed Kureno in the back when he tried to calm her down—ran away from the Sohma estate, wondering if everything really was all her fault, and why her world was collapsing so suddenly.
Desperate and looking for someone to blame, Akito suddenly realizes that the Juunishi had been slowly but surely leaving ever since Tohru had appeared in their lives Akito despairs at the chance of having lost her first friend without even being able to hold her hand. Akito then walks to Shigure's home and finds Tohru alone outside.
Unbeknownst to her, Tohru is not exactly in the best emotional state after her last talk with Kyo, where he explained to her how her mother died and the part he had on it, before she told him like she loved him and being refused by him over his guilt.
Akito then comments that Tohru must be happy, because she had "won" and had, in the process, destroyed the only life she had known. Akito then threatens Tohru with a knife; but Tohru, realizing how both she and Akito had been trying to hold onto an "unchanging" reality Akito clinging to the eternal bonds of the Zodiac; Tohru wanting her mother to always be first in her heart , told Akito that she understood how scary it is to be alone, and instead offered her hand in friendship, even introducing herself as if they had never met before.
Akito extended her hand, seemingly to accept the offer, but right before she could the unstable cliff ground collapsed and Tohru fell in the first volume of the series, just after a landslide destroyed Tohru's tent, Shigure warned her that the ground around the area was unstable and due to collapse again one day. At the sight of her newfound friend falling to what could be her death, rather than gloating or anything similar, Akito screamed to get help for Tohru, ultimately collapsing in tears in Shigure's arms.
When the hospitalized Tohru recovered at the hospital and was finally allowed visitors beyond her immediate family, Akito was surprisingly one of the first to visit and even more surprisingly, according to Hatori and Shigure, she went alone and entirely on her own accord. Fearful that she would be rejected by Tohru and Kureno both of whom she'd hurt, emotionally and physically , Akito was told a comforting story by Momiji, who also offered advice that made it possible for Akito to see Tohru and Kureno for who they really are: People whose kindness for others overrides their ability to be concerned about themselves.
With that in mind, she finally went to see Tohru, who offered her hand despite the fact her arm is injured to Akito in friendship again, which she accepted with a small smile. Akito also visited Kureno in the hospital, whom she had stabbed in the back; [24] Kureno, however, didn't blame Akito for her actions, and forgave her when Akito cried and apologized to him repeatedly for smothering him all of the years she'd kept him close.
From there on out, Akito decided to try to change rather than cling to being "God," and to the memory of her father and what he had wanted her to be.
Later, Kureno left to live in the country with Arisa Uotani , a close friend of Tohru's, and the curse was broken, Akito and Shigure finally confessed their true feelings for each other and reconciled. Akito begins living and dressing as a woman, and in her last meeting with all the formerly cursed Sohmas, she wore a furisode female kimono , and donned a flower in her hair, something that shocked the younger Sohmas, who had just learned of Akito's true gender.
Ritsu even was comically shocked over it. In her very last apparition, Akito was with Shigure on a date. Shigure asks Akito if she wasn't going to see Tohru and Kyo off, to whic she replies that she won't. However, Akito explains that she can always visit Tohru anytime, either way. Though Akito tells Shigure he can go if he wants to, he responds by saying that she is a "crafty girl", and they lovingly continue on their date.
Despite the initial complex relationship Akito had with Tohru, she reminisces on the memories she shares with her, which helped her to get where she is today. After the curse was broken, Ayame went to pay his respect for Akito since he was visiting Shigure and Hatori. Ayame thinks that Akito will be envious of him for spending a few hours with her "future spouse", as in Shigure, and tells her that he will be bonded with her for life just like she will with Shigure.
When he then suggested being partners-in-crimes with her, Akito, put off Ayame's flamboyance, awkwardly rejected the idea by claiming she had work to do. When Saki wanted to call Shigure, she reached out to Akito first and asked her if she could get her into contact with Shigure. Later, Shigure was briefly surprised by the fact that Saki had the direct head-line to Akito, the head of the Sohma family. Eventually, Akito married Shigure, having one son named Shiki Sohma between them.
As mentioned above, he is quiet and distant with her, he expresses more interest in wanting to learn martial arts than spend all his time with her, and he gets sick frequently and ends up being the one who is taken care of by the other adults. He wanders off on his own during the New Year banquet which is the quintessential ritual of reinforcing the Bond , and one day he even runs away from the estate all together!!!
Yuki is messing with Akito and her concept of the Bond left and right. S o she starts telling him the same thing over and over again to reinforce the message, to try to salvage the Bond, and she keeps him on a short leash always at the estate and always by her side in order to ensure it. Then when things get even worse, and Shigure sleeps with Ren, and Hatori wants to get married, and everything is falling apart … when Ren makes the bet with Akito, that is when she decides that Yuki is the key pawn in the game of proving the Bond, just like he has always been.
And so she focuses so much of her energy in winning the bet against Ren on getting Yuki to come back to the estate after letting him go. Furuba Canon. We're here to answer your Fruits Basket questions!
