I think she is justified in throwing Vladek and Anja out. Even though they are paying to stay there, to her, her and her childs wellbeing is most important. If she was found harboring jews she would most likely be arrested or killed. Anjas diaries were destroyed by Vladek becaused they reminded him too much of what happened. Because Vladek and Anja were split apart and Art could have used this information to see Anjas side of the story.
Because he destroys Anjas diary, he essentially murders Anjas experience as a jew in a concentration camp. What I like most about Maus I is how personal and realistic the story feels. Generally you hear about the experience of the Holocaust as a whole but this shows just one experience in particular.
What I like least may be that Vladek had a particularly lavish experience compared to most jews in Maus I. Tyler Burch 5: What i liked about maus its story. Im very fasanated by the journy that Valadik embarks on to survive the Nazis on there tails. One of my least faviorte thing is when the transition from war memories to Art and modern day Valadik are sitting and disscusing occurs. Sometimes its unclear when the trasition occurs and it gets me confused on wether its modern day or not.
This makes Art upset because he could have drawn out much information both for his book and maby personal closure and i think thats also one of the reasond he calls him a murder because, those were all that was left of Anja and he desroyed it, destroying her.
Paige 2. I thought he would be more pessimistic about it. However, like Mala says on Pg. Motonowa is lady that trades food and stuff in sosnowiec.
She hid Anja and Vladek in her house. However, she is caught trading food and she has to kick them out for a bit on Pg.
I think she is totally justified in kicking them out. If she was caught not only would Anja and Vladek be killed but her and her family would be too. Art is very upset because I think he felt like the diaries were the last piece of his mother left that he could still go to.
I think Art calls his father a murder because maybe he feels like even though his mother is gone she was still here in her diaries. However, Vladek destroys all of the diaries, therefore killing what was left of Anja. Chloe 2 I am very surprised by Vladek's response to the the book, I assumed he would have been angry with Art for sharing such personal things. However, he acted about this in a very calm manner and shared his thoughts on it. I think this shows that their relationship is growing because Vladek is more open to share how he feels about things with Art like when he talks about how sad it made him and the memories it brought back.
Motonowa is a woman who sells foods at the black market who hides Anja and Vladek. I do believe she is justified in kicking out Vladek and Anja because she should protect herself and he son first. It is known that Vladek and Anja are in a tough situation but it would just make things worse for everyone involved if Ms.
Motonowa was caught hiding Jews. This upsets Art because he wanted to read them and also because it was the last remaining thing from his mother. I think Art calls Vladek a murderer because he "killed" the diaries, which were a piece of Anja, so it would be like killing the last pieces of her. I think there may be more meaning behind it in the sense that maybe Art blames his father also for his mother's suicide.
Alicia M 3. Motonowa is a woman that Vladek met at the black market and they are somwhat friends. Maus was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in the Special Awards and Citations — Letters category in , becoming the first graphic novel to receive a Pulitzer. Spiegelman chose deliberately animals for his story, because he wants that the reader associates certain characteristics with certain animals.
But not only this metaphor is the reason why Spiegelman chose mice to represent Jews. Even the Nazis propagated that Jewish people are an inferior race. The Jews are depicted as mice, Germans as cats, pigs represent gentile Poles, dogs stand for Americans, frogs for the French, reindeer for the Swedes, bees for the Gypsies… His Maus is like a modern secularized bestiary. In the graphic novel Maus won the Pulitzer Prize for offering readers a simple but brilliant and relatable distillation of the Holocaust by rendering comic book versions of Nazis drawn as cats and the Jews they slaughtered as mice.
Maus is an extraordinary example of creative nonfiction. In , it became the first graphic novel to win a Pulitzer Prize. The layered storytelling of this novel creates interesting discussion. His work as co-editor on the comics magazines Arcade and Raw has been influential, and from he spent a decade as contributing artist for The New Yorker.
The family settled in Queens, New York, and Spiegelman, inspired by the clever artwork and subversive humour of Mad magazine, studied cartooning. He went on to study art and philosophy at Harpur College before becoming part of the underground comix subculture of the 60s and 70s.
