Some tanks will like to collect a lot of expertise in order to avoid boss parries, which may result in the Parry-Hasting effect. However, recently the boss Parry-Hasting effect has been disabled on some of the bosses. More information on this effect can be found on the Parry page. For level 82 and below heroic bosses and trash mobs in raids the dodge and parry caps are the same.
You won't need more than about 22 expertise. Expertise is of two-fold use to tanks. More importantly, because mobs may attack more quickly after parrying an attack, expertise reduces the total damage that the tank may receive by reducing the chance that his target parries. However, this parry-hasting effect from when a boss parries has been disabled from most bosses except the last 3 in 25m TOC.
For dodge-only caps, please see DPS Expertise caps, below. This provides ten expertise points not rating to the paladin while active, and requires that the paladin has Seal of Truth currently cast on themselves.
Melee DPS also benefit from expertise. With sufficient expertise, melee classes can attack their target from the front without being dodged or parried although facing restrictions, such as those on Backstab or Shred , still apply. It is possible to have enough expertise to prevent dodges and parries, but parries are much harder to prevent, and players without such high expertise values should remain behind the target to prevent parried attacks from increasing the target's attack speed against the tank.
Not to mention vastly superior offensive stats. Many of you would get better def mitigation by PvE set bonuses, trinkets and other stats to go along with the Resil you do attain.
For example Def is an amazing stat in PvP against melee and offers the same crit chance reduction as Resil. No not saying to stack it but it is a good substitute on many slots and you get the avoidance. Resist gear , kinda a niche build but Swifty has been immensely enjoying his Nature Resist set as it makes him far tankier then Resil ever could by making him nearly immune to all nature spells and poisons.
Not to mention resisting roots, cyclone those nasty Ele spells. Many of us have to ditch important stats to attain it and lower your output drastically in terms of sustain and burst. Then also the Raid gear is just on another level compared to S1. A raid geared player will do vastly more damage than a PvP geared one. So take a step back breathe and actually investigate what will make your build in PvP the actual best.
Good luck out there and investigate these stats a little more to have a better understanding on what actually helps in PvP. None of this advice applies to healers. Most of the PvE healing gear is weak on stamina high on healing, mana pool, and regen under the assumption you will not be taking any damage. In PvP we do not have tanks to absorb damage for us, so we must be durable to survive.
Resilience is the only way to increase PvP defense as a healer. To manage your holy power, use power auras. Set a large translucent graphic to appear on each paladins screen when they have 3 holy power, or hand of light. You could also set a graphic to appear on the main screen for when each paladin has hand of light, but not holy power. The proc accounts for a lot of the healing that the team has going for it.
