I was really impressed with how much there was to do here for smaller kids! It's designed for kids under 50 inches to splash around with the accompaniment of an adult.
The water level varies from six inches to two feet, and there were plenty of lifeguards on hand. There's a play structure with a small slide that dumps and sprays water as well as the shower waterfall features.
The biggest hit with our kids were the four, nicely sized water slides. Two of the slides are open and you can accompany your kids down them, and two are closed tubes for single riders. After some initial caution, all three of our kids fell in love with these slides and rode them over and over again. They were slow enough that even our twin three-year-olds could do them solo. If you have an infant, there is a smaller section with a few splash pad type features and some bucket swings were you can push your little one and let their toes splash in the water.
If you go through it today, you will notice the abandoned Hydra heads under the Zoom Flumes. The Hydra was the original charter ride of the park and remained until around It was then dismantled in though it could've remained open for the season and remained empty until , when the space became RipQurl.
According to the Splashtown webpage, there were three slides: Screamicles , the free-fall slide. It had a 54 degree drop, was 66 feet tall and linear feet. There was also Longdropicus , which was as tall and as linearally long as Screamicles, but slightly more mild. Finally, there was Weaknesicles , which was based on speed.
In my short time knowing Hydra, it seemed it was easy-medium-hard with Screamicles being "hard" and Weaknesicles being "easy". Regrettably, when I finally tried Hydra in its last years, by that time, Screamicles was closed , I still found Weaknesicles rather intense, and I blame it on my mother's genes that I can't really take fast waterslides or roller coasters.
