Picking a seat on a flight used to simple: you picked the one that looked best, and that was that. For the uninitiated, it can be a confusing mess, compounded by the fact that airlines have their own names for many of the categories. But what sets these seats apart from the rest is a few extra inches of legroom, priority boarding, a better location at the front of the cabin, free alcoholic beverages, and free meal service, depending on your specific airline.
Economy plus seats are pretty much equal in terms of quality across the domestic airlines. International carriers do offer upgraded economy seats, but they rarely come with as many perks as their U. That said, most international airlines already offer economy passengers free food and drink, including alcoholic beverages.
Of course, economy plus seats cost more than regular economy seats, but the exact price depends on routes. But the two options preceding business class — premium economy and economy plus — are often the hardest for travelers to distinguish. Premium economy fits between coach and business class, both price-wise and in terms of placement on the aircraft. The generous legroom made most of that worthwhile, though — there was so much space that I was able to get in and out of my window seat without asking the other passengers to move. There were movies to choose from. Wi-Fi was fairly expensive given the short duration, although you could pause the packages, stretching that entry-level hour to the full flight.

Now, due to the coronavirus, meal service has been altered, and you can expect a prepackaged snack bag in economy on flights longer than two hours and 20 minutes. I had the cheeseburger. As a Premier 1K elite, my burger was free, as was a beverage of choice. The burger was served hot. The crew was friendly and considerate and responded to the call button in just 20 seconds. As a Premier 1K member, I was able to select a superb Economy Plus seat free of charge, and my cheeseburger and cocktail were on the house.
